Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Farmers across the country will now cultivate Govardhan, a new mustard variety developed at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), Kanpur. This high-yielding variety has been considered suitable for cultivation in all climatic zones of the country by the Central Government. Mustard oil production of this species has also been found to be five to seven percent more (total 39.6 percent) as compared to the existing species.
Its sowing can also be done late in the season i.e. till 20-30 November. University Vice Chancellor Vijayendra Pandian congratulated the scientific team doing the research and said that this species will definitely prove to be a boon for the farmers of the country and the state.
The Central Seed Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has issued a notification on December 31 regarding the cultivation of Govardhan in the entire country. Director Research Dr. RK Yadav said that with the arrival of this new variety of mustard, farmers will get wide options according to their specific agricultural needs and geographical conditions. This species has been cultivated under the supervision of agronomists in different climatic zones across the country and it has been found suitable for cultivation. It has met all the quality standards, production capacity and suitability criteria of mustard.
It is not affected by diseases and pests
Mustard grower of CSA, Dr. Mehak Singh said that its cultivation can also be done during (20 to 30 November). It is not affected by the existing diseases and pests of mustard crops. It has high oil content (about 39.6 percent), the crop is ripe in 120-125 days, and it also gives 7.81 percent more yield than the mustard varieties being sown in the country. Media in-charge of the university, Dr. Khalil Khan said that with the certification of the Central Seed Committee, this species can now be cultivated in the entire country. Farmers of Uttar Pradesh have been cultivating it for many years.
