Kedar Dutt, Dehradun. The picture of the villages of Uttarakhand bordering China and Nepal is going to change. In this series, steps have been taken towards developing villages of border areas like Neeti, Mana, Jadung, Harshil, Gunji as adventure tourism hubs.
While on one hand this will help in stopping the migration from border villages, on the other hand they will become vibrant due to tourism activities throughout the year.
That is, the villages which are covered with silence as soon as the evening falls, will now hear the echo of activities like paragliding, trekking, ultra marathon. The aim of this initiative is also to empower these villages from strategic and economic point of view.
The Central Government is continuously emphasizing on making the border villages vibrant. In this series, 91 border villages of the state have been included in the Centre's ambitious Vibrant Village Programme.
These days various works are going on in 51 villages bordering China, while plans are being prepared for 40 villages bordering Nepal. Along with this, the state government has focused on making other villages Sarsabz.
In order to make the border villages vibrant, special emphasis is being laid on tourism activities there. Since the border villages are located in the high peak area, adventure tourism activities are being conducted there.
The intention behind this is that the border villages remain vibrant throughout the year and livelihood opportunities are also available to the residents there.
In the same sequence, after the success of Adi Kailash Ultra Marathon in Pithoragarh district, now preparations are being finalized for Extreme Ultra Marathon on 31st May in Neeti Valley of Chamoli district. In the proposed plan, a 75 km ultra marathon will be held from Rimkhim in Niti valley to Malari via Niti.
Jadung village is getting populated
Jadung village, which was evacuated after the India-China war in 1962 in Chamoli district, is being repopulated. Houses of six villagers have been prepared there, while work on eight is going on. Work is to be done on the houses of the remaining 13 villagers in the next phase. All these houses will work as home stays. Mana village in Chamoli district itself will be developed as per the master plan.
Shivnagari developing in Gunji
Gunji, a border village of Pithoragarh district, is being developed as Shivnagari. Here, passenger facilities are being developed at Timmarsain Mahadev located in Neeti Valley of Chamoli district at a cost of Rs 17 crore.
These adventure tourism activities are also proposed
Promotion of adventure tourism activities in border villages will also create livelihood opportunities for local residents. Besides, there will be activity throughout the year. Not only this, migration will also be curbed.- Satpal Maharaj, Tourism Minister
