Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. The budget session of the Odisha Assembly got off to a stormy start on Tuesday. As soon as the proceedings of the House began, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi moved a condolence motion expressing grief over the demise of former members of the Assembly. After this the Governor addressed the House.
However, the opposition expressed strong objection to the Governor's address. Members of Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) walked out of the House in protest.
Meanwhile, expelled BJD MLAs Arvind Mahapatra and Sanatan Mahakud, whose seats were recently changed in the Assembly after their expulsion from the party, remained sitting on their respective seats and did not join the walkout. Responding to the seat change, Mahapatra said that it does not make any difference to him.
He said that he is still an MLA and can raise issues related to his constituency from any seat in the House. He said that he wanted to listen to the Governor's address to assess the claims being made by the government about its achievements. If he gets an opportunity, he will also raise issues related to his constituency Patkura along with the performance of the government.
Mahapatra also said that he still does not know the reason for which he was expelled from BJD. On the budget presented in the session, he said that he will give his opinion at the appropriate time. Thus, on the first day of the budget session, a mixed scene of mourning, political protest and emerging controversy was seen, which has given indications of heated debates in the coming days.
