South Africa's special focus on India: Tourism becomes 'top priority', expectations from 2027 World Cup

New Delhi Seeing the increasing tourist traffic from India, South Africa has made it clear that the Indian market is now a 'top priority' for it. Especially when South Africa has the highest number of tourists from countries like Britain, America and China. Whereas India is at number 10 in the list.

To woo Indian tourists, South Africa Tourism successfully completed the Delhi phase of its annual India Roadshow. Earlier it started with OTM Mumbai.

Over 40 exhibitors and over 255 Indian travel trade partners participated in the Delhi Roadshow. The objective was clear – to explore new business opportunities in the leisure, corporate and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) segments and strengthen partnerships with Indian travel agents.

Where do tourists come from in South Africa?

India is the primary growth market for tourism

The roadshow was led by Mithali Karmakar, Marketing and Communications Manager (MEISEA). He said, "India is the primary growth market for South Africa tourism. Indian interest in family travel, experiential holidays and premium travel is continuously increasing."

He also said that today's Indian travelers are planning trips with the help of AI tools, traveling more thoughtfully and want to explore new destinations beyond the traditional ones.

“This shift shows that travelers are now more confident and curious, which is a huge opportunity for South Africa's lesser-known regions,” he said.

Delhi is an important source market of South Africa

Delhi was described as an important source market for South Africa in India. Travelers here are looking for a mix of luxury, wildlife and culture. They're looking for curated and exclusive experiences, not just classic spots.

South Africa aims to return the number of Indian tourists to pre-Covid levels by 2026. Besides, the ODI World Cup to be held in 2027 is also being considered a big opportunity for the country, which will boost tourism at the global level.

South Africa Tourism, the official marketing body of the South African Government, has a clear focus on long-term partnerships with India, innovative travel packages and making the 'Rainbow Nation' the preferred destination for Indians.
