Know the main points and gist of the news at a glance

New Delhi More than 50 lakh central government employees and about 69 lakh pensioners are currently waiting for the announcement of DA Hike from the 8th Pay Commission.

The 8th Pay Commission is considered to be effective from January 1, 2026, but its benefits will not be available immediately. Until the Commission prepares its recommendations and takes approval from the government, salaries and pensions will continue to be paid under the framework of the 7th Pay Commission.

DA expected to increase by 5% in March

The Labor Ministry's All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW) for December remained steady at 148.2. DA is decided on the basis of this index. It is estimated that the government may increase DA by 5 percentage points. If this happens then DA will increase from 58% to 63%.

There is a possibility that it may be announced in March. Employee organizations believe that the decision may come before Holi. In such a situation, increased DA will be given in the April salary and arrears can also be added from January 2026.

8th Pay Commission will take time

The government had approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the 8th Pay Commission in October. The commission may take about 18 months to prepare its report. That means the real change in salary, allowances and pension is still far away.

The office of the Commission has been established in New Delhi. An important meeting of employee and pensioner organizations is proposed on 25th February. Fitment factor, minimum wage, allowances and service conditions will be discussed in this. A draft will be prepared and placed before the Commission.

Complete information will be available from the new website

The government has launched the official website of the 8th Pay Commission www.8cpc.gov.in. Here ministries, departments, employees and pensioners can register their suggestions and opinions. The government says that this will make the process transparent.

Meanwhile, All India NPS Employees Federation has started a campaign across the country. Representatives from about 400 districts are included. There is a demand that the Commission should submit its report in 200 days and the rules of the Center should be equally applicable in the Union Territories also.

At present, all eyes are on the possible DA increase in March, while it may take time to get the full benefits of the 8th Pay Commission.
