After Birth, Javed Akhtar's Father Read The Communist Party's Manifesto In His Ears, Interesting Story

Jagran correspondent, Lucknow. When a child is born in a Muslim family, the first verses from the Quran are read to his ears, but nothing like this happened with the famous lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar.

His father had read the Communist Party's manifesto instead of verses from the Quran. When Javed Akhtar himself narrated this interesting story at the Urdu Academy on Sunday, people started laughing.

In a dialogue organized by Comrade Shankar Dayal Tiwari Memorial Committee, when senior journalist Sudhir Mishra asked Javed Akhtar a question related to his birth, he said that you are taking me backward and not forward. At this the auditorium echoed with laughter.

Then Javed narrated the incident - ''When I was born in a hospital in Gwalior, my father's friends came to congratulate him. People said that when a child is born, read Azaan or verses from the Quran in his ear.

When his father saw that he had the Communist Party's manifesto in his hand, he read it.'' Akhtar also shared stories related to his father as well as his grandfather and great grandfather. Also praised Lucknow dialect. Said, here traditional people, whether men or women, do not speak “I” but “we”.

The question was, what did you inherit from your father? Javed said, "Nobody lectures the child in the environment he lives in." Whatever a child learns at home at the age of 15-17 years, he cannot study in any college. This is probably what happened to me.

I learned a lot from wherever I grew up. Books often came to the house and there was talk only about books. I also used to read a lot.

He shared memories of his days studying at Calvin Talukdar College. Said, ''My college fees at that time was Rs 17. Tuition used to cost Rs 15. The shoes used to cost Rs 19. It was very expensive at that time. Then we were told that those with Rs 17 study in a school. He also told his memories related to his childhood in Khairabad. Said, "'I only went there once.'"
