Jagran correspondent, Jaipur. The Rajasthan government has also taken an important initiative in taking education in government schools beyond books and making it practical and contemporary. After Uttar Pradesh, now students in government schools of Rajasthan will also get the opportunity to read newspapers.
During the prayer meeting, one Hindi and one English newspaper will be read, so that children can connect with the events of the country and the world and their language and understanding level improves.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government had implemented the system of reading newspapers for students in government schools. Its aim was to strengthen children's language, vocabulary and contemporary understanding. Now Rajasthan has also decided to adopt this model and implement it in its education system.
As per the order of the state government, newspapers will be made available in the libraries of all government schools. At least two newspapers will be mandatory in higher secondary schools, one in Hindi and one in English.
At the same time, two Hindi newspapers will be kept in upper primary schools. Its objective is to ensure that students at every level develop the habit of reading newspapers regularly.
Education Secretary Krishna Kunal clarified that every day five new words will be selected from the newspapers read in the prayer meeting and their meanings will be explained to the students. This will continuously increase the vocabulary of children and they will be able to understand and use the language better. This exercise will develop children's ability to read, listen and think together.
Newspaper will give children understanding of social, political and economic issues
The Education Department believes that regular reading of newspapers will give children an understanding of social, political and economic issues. This will develop their ability to analyze and they will move towards becoming responsible citizens. This step of the government is being considered an important effort towards making education more vibrant, practical and useful.
Agricultural science subject is now taught in English medium also.
In this context, the Rajasthan government has also made major changes in the study of agricultural science to make education in line with the demands of the times. From the upcoming academic session, Agricultural Science subject will also be taught in English medium in classes 11 and 12. Till now this subject was available only in Hindi medium.
English medium books will be prepared by Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. More than one lakh students currently studying agricultural science are likely to benefit from this decision.
