Initially the arrival of these fruits has happened through two trucks in the beginning of February, which is likely to increase to 10 trucks by the festival of Ramadan.
Wasim Ahmed, Vinod Sonkar, Madanlal, Shahid Ahmed and Haji Taufiq, wholesalers of watermelon and melon in the market, said that as the weather changes, the demand for these fruits will also increase. The starting price of watermelon ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg, while the price of melon ranges from Rs 30 to Rs 35 per kg. Currently these fresh fruits are coming in the market from other states but soon these fresh fruits from the local river banks will hit the market.
At present these fruits are coming from Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. With the arrival of summer season, these fruits will be consumed on a large scale. The business community believes that the demand for these fruits will increase further during Ramadan, which will boost business. While cucumber has arrived in the market, cucumber has also started appearing in the market in retail form. However, after a week the cucumber will be completely available in the market.
