The Urban Development and Housing Department has approved an amount of Rs 15 crore for the Kurji drain-road project announced during the Pragati Yatra of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. This amount is expected to speed up the construction work of the project. Earlier on September 12, an amount of Rs 5 crore had been released for this scheme.

The Kurji Nala project is being considered an important step towards a permanent solution to the problem of water logging that has been going on for years in the capital. After getting administrative approval for this detailed plan prepared with the aim of strengthening the drainage system, its construction work is going on. Under the scheme, along with the construction of the drain, a road is being constructed over it, which will provide relief from the problem of water logging and will also make transportation more convenient and safe. Special care is also being taken to ensure that drainage is not obstructed during construction.

The total catchment area of ​​Kurji Nala is 15.48 square kilometres, while the area of ​​Anandpuri Nala Diversion has been determined to be 1.21 square kilometres. Rain water and dirty water coming from Jaiprakash Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Keshari Nagar, Kurji, AG Colony, Kautilya Nagar, CDA Colony, Patel Nagar, Indrapuri Nagar and Patliputra Industrial Area will flow through this drain. All these areas have been facing the problem of severe water logging every year during monsoon, which affects the common people as well as trade and traffic.

Work going on fast from Rajiv Nagar DPS to Kurji

Under the supervision of Patliputra zone of Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUDCO), construction and improvement work is in progress from Rajiv Nagar DPS to Kurji via Shakuntala Market and Atal Path. This project received administrative approval on March 7, 2025. Its total estimated cost is Rs 180.99 crore. The project is targeted to be completed by 22 July 2027.
