Jagran correspondent, Haridwar. 65 Anganwadi centers of the district will be illuminated with solar energy. Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) has started its exercise. It will cost around Rs 98 lakh. After this, installation of solar power plants in other Anganwadi centers will also be considered.
There are about two thousand Anganwadi centers in the district. Most of these operate in rented buildings. Where there is lack of facilities. Thousands of children come to the centers every day to get primary education. Due to lack of basic facilities like electricity, children in the centers have to face problems during the summer season.
To solve this, preparations are being made to connect Anganwadi centers with solar energy. UREDA has started the tender process for setting up off-grid solar plants in Anganwadi centers of the district.
Solar plants will be installed first in centers with higher number of children. An amount of about Rs 98 lakh will be spent in installing them. This plant with a capacity of one kilowatt will also have a battery bank, which will provide backup in case solar energy is not available.
Tenders have been invited for setting up solar plants in 65 Anganwadi centers of the district. As soon as this process is completed, a list of the centers where panels are to be installed will be sought from the department. It will cost around Rs 97.82 lakh.
