Antibiotics Are Being Used In Farming As Well As In Poultry And Fish Farming, A Serious Threat To Health!

Jagran correspondent, Rampur. Antibiotics-Awareness: The use of antibiotics is no longer limited to human use only, but is also being used extensively in agriculture, poultry and fish farming business. This antibiotic is reaching the human body through grains, vegetables, eggs, milk, meat, fish etc., due to which the risk of AMR (antimicrobial resistance) is increasing.

Medicines are given to chicken and fish babies

There are more than 100 poultry farms in the district, while there are more than 50 farmers involved in fisheries. Here, the chicken and fish babies are given antibiotics to protect them from diseases and to make them grow up quickly. Antibiotics like oxytetracycline, ciprofloxacin, and erythromycin are given to fish by mixing them in the feed. Similarly, in poultry farms, antibiotics like oxytetracycline, doxycycline, enrofloxacin, amoxicillin, colistin and tylosin are mainly used to protect chickens from diseases and for their development.

Medicines are given through drinking water or grains

These medicines are usually given through drinking water or granules. Drugs like streptomycin and oxytetracycline are used especially to combat bacterial diseases in crop production. The use of antibiotics on a large scale to protect animals, birds and fish from disease and to cure it when disease occurs increases the risk of AMR.

Actually, these antibiotics are reaching the human body through agricultural products as well as through milk, eggs, meat or fish or by mixing in the environment. Because of this, infections in the human body do not heal quickly and this condition becomes a big challenge for health.
