Ashok Kumar becomes the new Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi.
State Bureau, New Delhi. The Election Commission has appointed 2006 batch IAS officer Ashok Kumar as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi. He will replace R Ellis Vaz. He was transferred from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago. He was asked to remain in the post till the appointment of a new CEO.
In January, the Election Commission had asked the Delhi government to submit a panel of three IAS officers for CEO. Ashok Kumar's name was also included in the three officers sent by the government. On Monday, Election Commission Principal Secretary Rahul Sharma wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma informing him about the appointment of Ashok Kumar.
In the letter, he has been asked to assume charge immediately and send a compliance report to the Delhi government within a week. Ashok Kumar has long administrative experience. He has held responsibilities in many departments including revenue, administration, urban development. At present he is posted as Secretary in the General Administration Department of Delhi Government. He also has the additional charge of Secretary, Labor Department.
