For the safety of Kanwadis, the exhibition will remain closed on 14-15th on Mahashivratri.
Jagran correspondent, Aligarh. Keeping in mind the huge crowd of Kanwar pilgrims and security arrangements on Mahashivratri festival, the administration has decided to keep the exhibition closed on 14th and 15th February. Officer in-charge of the exhibition and ADM City Kinshuk Srivastava has issued an order that no activity of any kind will be conducted in the exhibition premises on these dates.
Mahashivratri will be celebrated on 15th February. On this festival, a large number of Kanwariyas reach the major Shiva temples of the district including Khereshwar temple for Jalabhishek. There is a lot of pressure from Kanwariyas on Ramghat Road and GT Road. Due to the exhibition being organized around GT Road, crowd management could have been challenging.
Therefore the administration has taken this decision. According to the administration, the conclusion of the exhibition which started from January 16 was earlier proposed to be on February 13, but due to rain for several days in between, business was affected. In view of the loss suffered by the shopkeepers, the administration is also considering extending the duration of the exhibition by three to four days. The final decision will be taken after the closure period. Last year the exhibition was closed for one day. Meat shops will remain closed on Kanwar Marg
The administration is making elaborate security arrangements regarding Mahashivratri. After the joint meeting of DM and SSP, preparations are now being reviewed at the tehsil level also. Instructions have been given to keep all meat shops closed for three days on the Kanwar Yatra routes.
The city is being divided into seven sectors for security reasons. Magistrates will be deployed here. Special arrangements for additional police force, lighting and barricading are also being made at Sankara Ganga Ghat in Atrauli tehsil. This should not cause any inconvenience to the devotees.
The administration is conscious about the security arrangements on Mahashivratri. It has been decided to keep the exhibition closed for two days. Only after this the date of closing of the exhibition will be decided.
