Due to slow pace of smart meter installation by the executing agency, consumers have to wait for one to one and a half months. It has been made mandatory to install smart meter for electricity connection.
There is a provision from the department to provide electricity connections to consumers within seven days. The consumer has to complete the online process, after depositing the amount for electricity connection, there are instructions to make the connection by installing a smart meter within three to four days.
According to the departmental data, the list for new electricity connections is sent by the department to the organization responsible for installing smart meters. Smart meters are to be installed on the connections of about two thousand consumers, while more than eight hundred consumers are also included in the urban areas. Even after depositing the amount by the consumers, the connection is not being started. Due to this consumers are living without electricity.
Executive Engineer Meter Amit Raj Chitravanshi said that meters are being installed on new connections, but their speed is very slow. A letter has been sent to the executing organization for this. Smart meter supervisor Shashi Ranjan said that the waiting list will be eliminated soon.
