Jagran correspondent, Jhajjar. Jhajjar Health Department team has successfully busted a big gang carrying out illegal sex determination tests across the border. Jhajjar and Delhi PNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) teams jointly conducted the raid, which exposed this illegal business being run from a spa center in Tilak Nagar, Delhi. A woman broker and another accused have been arrested, and Rs 1 lakh in cash and a Doppler machine have been recovered from them.

The 'deal' was finalized for Rs 1.50 lakh

District Appropriate Authority, Jhajjar had received a tip-off that a woman named Roma was conducting illegal sex determination tests on pregnant women under the guise of running a spa at "The Look Spa" in Santgarh (Tilak Nagar), Delhi.

Acting on this information, a special team was formed under the leadership of Dr. Sandeep Kumar (Nodal Officer, PC-PNDT). The team sent a pregnant woman and a man (Surendra) as fake customers. Roma asked for Rs 1.50 lakh for the gender determination test, out of which Rs 1 lakh was to be paid in advance.

A trap laid with marked notes

On the morning of February 5, 2026, the Jhajjar team reached Delhi, where the West Delhi team (Nodal Officer Dr. Leena Raut and Tehsildar Aryandu Ambesh) also joined them. The fake customer was given marked Rs 1 lakh notes and sent to the spa. As soon as Roma took the money, a man named Kuldeep came on a motorcycle and did the test with an ultrasonic fetal doppler machine.

When Kuldeep was trying to run away by hiding the machine in his T-shirt, the team caught him red handed. During the search, bribe amount of Rs 1 lakh was also recovered from Roma. The local Tilak Nagar police has registered a case against the accused under various sections and taken them into custody.

District Commissioner Swapnil Ravindra Patil and Civil Surgeon Dr. Manju Kadyan praised the team for this successful operation. The Deputy Commissioner said that the administration will not compromise on the safety of girls. Expressing concern, Dr. Manju Kadian said that the sex ratio in Jhajjar (915 girls per 1000 boys) is still worrying.

He said, "Illegal abortion rackets are playing with the lives of women. The society needs to get out of this conservative thinking."
