Jagran correspondent, Haldwani. The dispute regarding landed land in Lamachaud area of the city has taken a serious form. Palam City resident Prafull Gupta has filed an application in the court alleging that the alleged land mafia gang not only tried to take over the land of his 70-year-old mother, but also uprooted and stole the property developed by spending lakhs of rupees.
In the application given to the court of Second Judicial Magistrate, Haldwani, the victim said that his 70-year-old mother Durga Devi had purchased 0.670 hectare land in village Jaipur Padli Lamachod area in the year 2005 through proper deed. The family cultivated the land for years and planted a garden.
Due to mother's old age and health reasons, the responsibility of taking care of the land has fallen on her shoulders. It is alleged that in the year 2018-19, the accused had demolished the western boundary wall and the room inside with a JCB machine. A complaint was also made in this regard to the local administration and the State Women's Commission, but no action was taken.
During the lockdown in the year 2020, land mafia also cut down eight big mango trees from the land. Then on 16 September 2021, after another attempt to break the boundary, a case was filed in the court of Senior Civil Judge, Haldwani. On July 19, 2023, the court had passed an injunction restraining the accused from encroaching on the property. Told that for the security of the land, around Rs 10-12 lakh were spent and CCTV cameras, iron frame, tin shed, hall, toilet-bathroom and kitchen were built.
Construction materials, rebar, girders, angles, bricks and gravel etc. were also kept at the spot. But when he reached the site on the evening of 27 August 2024, he found the entire iron structure, tin shed, cameras, storage devices, furniture, construction material and other items missing.
There was nothing left at the spot. He alleged that Ramesh Paldia, Kannu Paldia, Mayank Sharma and Lalit Pratap Singh Rawat, who had given threats in the past, had committed this act by forming a gang. After the incident, an email complaint was sent to Lamachaud post and then to Senior Superintendent of Police, Nainital on 28 August 2024, but FIR was not registered. Now, after the order of the court, an FIR has been registered against the land mafia in Mukhani police station.
