Sub-Divisional Hospital Haveli Kharagpur Munger

Samvad Sutra, Haveli Kharagpur (Munger). The condition of government hospitals has remained bad for a long time. At some places there are hospitals but no doctors, at other places there are doctors but facilities are unavailable. To remove these shortcomings and improve the health system, action has been intensified on the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The Health Department has constituted a six-member committee to ban the private practice of government doctors.

The committee will soon submit its report to the state government. Officials believe that this step will increase the presence of doctors in government hospitals and patients will be able to get timely treatment. There have been complaints of shortage and irregularities of doctors in Kharagpur sub-division area of Munger district for a long time. After the ban on private practice, doctors will have to spend more time in the hospital, which will improve the quality of health services in rural areas and reduce the need for patients to be referred to cities.

Health department officials say that due to doctors spending more time in private clinics, their presence in government hospitals was reduced to minimum. Now the committee will assess what kind of incentives should be given to doctors in return for leaving private practice, such as salary, incentives, priority in promotion, housing facilities, better working environment and modern equipment. A special package will also be prepared especially for doctors working in rural areas.

The committee will be jointly chaired by Rekha Jha and the superintendent of PMCH. The members include the Principal of Nalanda Medical College, KK Mani, President of the Health Services Association, General Secretary, Dr. Rohit Kumar and Dr. Vibhuti Narayan Sinha, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. After the committee report comes, the state government will implement it in a phased manner. With this step, it is expected that there will be improvement in the government hospitals of entire Bihar including Munger district and the possibility of poor patients getting better health services has increased.
