Digital Desk, New Delhi. More than 55 percent voting took place in the parliamentary elections of Bangladesh. According to early trends, Tariq Rahman's Bangladesh Nationalist Party is heading towards a big victory. Although the results of many seats have already been declared, they are yet to be officially announced.
BNP President and Prime Ministerial candidate Tariq Rehman has unofficially won from two important seats Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6. The victory of Rahman, who returned to Bangladesh after 17 years, is considered very important.
Sporadic violence occurred during polling
During polling, sporadic incidents of violence were reported from places like Gopalganj, Munshiganj and Cumilla. Several crude bombs exploded one after the other at the Atakara Government Primary School polling center in Chouddagram Upazila of Cumilla. In Bhairab, Kishoreganj, it is alleged that a man named Razzaq Mia died after being chased by the policemen. In Khulna, BNP leader Mohibuzzaman Katchi died when rival Jamaat supporters pushed him, causing him to fall and suffer head injuries.
There will be a wave in favor of paddy bundle – Tariq Rehman
Tariq Rehman, spokesperson of the BNP's National Parliamentary Election Management Committee and advisor to the BNP chairperson, said, "We are sure that there will be a wave in favor of the paddy bundle, and the BNP will win. The victory of democracy will be confirmed."
Power transfer to new government in 3 to 4 days
Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the interim government's chief advisor Muhammad Yunus, said that once the winner is announced, the interim government will transfer power to the new elected government within three to four days of the national elections.
Once the newly elected Members of Parliament are sworn in, the leader of the majority party will be invited to be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh, making Bangladesh a democratically elected government with a political mandate. The interim government says the process could be completed by February 15 or 16, and will not extend beyond February 17 or 18.
