Banka: Elderly People Remained Alone For Three Days And Got Respectable Last Rites With The Help Of Social Workers And Local People.

Crowd gathered in front of the house of deceased Bharat Tanti in Mahmadpur Mohalla of Amarpur city of Banka, relatives preparing to carry the cremation.

Communication Associate, Amarpur (Banka). An incident that shocked humanity came to light in Mahamadpur Mahadalit Tola of Ward No. 14 of Amarpur city of Banka. The body of 65-year-old Bharat Tanti, a resident of the locality, remained lying in his house for three days, but during this time no one tried to inquire about his well-being. When the neighbors peeped inside the house due to a strong foul smell, Bharat Tanti was found dead.

Local people told that Bharat Tanti's wife and son had died about five years ago. After this he was living alone in his house. About a decade ago, he had sold his house to a person from the same locality. For this reason his other relatives were also hesitant in coming forward for the last rites.

As soon as information about the incident was received, some relatives including the sister of the deceased reached the spot, but due to weak financial condition, it was difficult for them to perform the cremation. Meanwhile, social worker Ramkumar Gore reached the spot and collected financial assistance with the help of local people. Apart from this, ward councilors Kumari Neelam Jha and Santosh Jha also contributed. After these efforts, Bharat Tanti's body was finally prepared for cremation and his last rites were performed.

People of the locality say that no one had seen Bharat Tanti for the last three-four days. Because of this, it is feared that he had died three days ago. The incident not only brought pain to the family but also sent a warning message to the society about the insecurity with which the elderly and those living alone are living.

The quick initiative of local social workers and councilors showed humanity in this incident. He showed that through mutual cooperation and sensitivity, one's last journey can be made dignified. This incident is also an opportunity for the locality and society to think about how important periodic care and support is for the elderly living alone.
