A serious case of large-scale fraud under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) has come to light in Sarauni Gram Panchayat of Shahkund block of the district. Allegations have been made of embezzlement of government funds by creating fake attendance of workers through NMMS mobile app.
In this regard, a complaint has been sent to the District Administration, MNREGA Commissioner, Principal Secretary Rural Development, Chief Minister and Prime Minister.
Accusation of withdrawing money by creating fake presence and embezzlement
According to the complaint, in that panchayat, in the dam repair work from Sitaram Singh's farm to Kuldeep Mandal's farm, in three different master rolls 24997, 24998 and 24999, irrelevant and unrelated pictures were uploaded on the app, disregarding the rules.
It is alleged that instead of the live photo, a photo was taken from the photo and uploaded. Through that, fake presence of workers was shown. A huge discrepancy was found in the attendance recorded and uploaded photographs from 25 to 28 December 2025 in Master Roll No. 24997.
According to the documents, while three women and seven men were registered on a given day, photographs of only 10 women were uploaded on the app. Photographs of different men were uploaded on other dates also, whereas as per rules, only laborers recorded in a master roll are considered employed for the entire working period.
Not only this, master rolls 24998 and 24999 also repeated the same photographs that were used in the first master roll. The use of the same photo despite having different master rolls and names of different workers directly points towards fraud.
Withdrawal of MNREGA funds by creating fake presence
The complainant alleges that in this way MNREGA funds were withdrawn by creating fake presence and then the same was systematically distributed by the concerned personnel and associates. The photographs and documents downloaded from the app are attached with the application as evidence.
Demand for high level investigation into the matter
Considering the seriousness of the matter, a high-level, independent and confidential investigation has been demanded, so that strict action is taken against the culprits and innocent people are not harmed in any way. If the allegations are found to be true then it will raise a big question on the transparency of a public welfare scheme like MNREGA.
MNREGA District Program Officer Dev Krishna says that action is certain against the wrongdoers. MNREGA works are being monitored at many levels. Action is being taken.
