Digital Desk, New Delhi. The country's first government cab taxi service 'Bharat Taxi' has officially started in New Delhi on February 5, 2026.
While launching the app, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said - Its biggest feature is that the drivers will not have to pay any commission and they themselves will be the partners, i.e. owners, of this platform. At the same time, passengers will get travel at low fares and fares will not increase even during peak hours.
Bharat Taxi is based on the philosophy of ‘Sarathi Hi Malik’, in which the driver behind the wheel is the owner of the platform and not any big company. The purpose of this service is to curb the arbitrariness of private companies like Ola-Uber. Bharat Taxi was trialled in New Delhi and Rajkot, Gujarat, which was successful.

How does Bharat Taxi work?
Drivers register themselves on the Bharat Taxi app. When a rider books a taxi through the app, a nearby driver gets the ride. After the ride is completed, the fare goes directly into the driver's bank account and not into any company's wallet. This is why in this model, drivers are not just employees but partners in the platform.

Where is Bharat Taxi service currently operational?
Bharat Taxi service has been started as a pilot project in Delhi-NCR. After this the service will be started in big cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bhopal, Lucknow, Jaipur.
How is it different from Ola-Uber?
The model of Bharat Taxi is completely different from Ola-Uber. There is no commission nor surge pricing here. In Ola-Uber, the company is the owner, the driver only works.
This is why Bharat Taxi fares can be up to 30% cheaper for passengers. On the other hand, if drivers do not have to pay commission, they will earn more.
What is special for women?
Bharat Taxi is promoting women, in which more than 150 women have so far joined under the 'Bike Didi' or 'Mahila Sarathi' program. A target has been set to provide free training to 15,000 women by the year 2030. Women can also earn daily by taking advantage of the zero commission model.

Where to complain if a driver misbehaves?
