Raju Irani was wanted in more than seven states including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal for the last four years. Active in crime world for two decades
Raju Irani, active for almost two decades, is an old player in the world of fraud and robbery. He used to scare businessmen and commit crimes by pretending to be an officer of a central agency and sometimes a police officer. His specialty has been to dodge the police by changing his identity through fake documents after every arrest. Now the police is also thoroughly investigating his old identity and the crimes registered under different names, so that the entire network of his interstate fraud gang can be exposed.
kept dodging again and again
According to the police, in the year 2020, Bhopal Crime Branch had caught him planning a robbery. After being released from jail, he became active again and while living underground, he continued to commit fraud and robbery with his gang members. Police from many states reached Bhopal to arrest him, but they could not find him.
Raju's gang used very vicious methods. Sometimes he would deceive businessmen by showing fear of checking or recent robbery, and sometimes he would divert attention by using chemicals in banks and crowded areas. His companions, sometimes disguised as astrologers and sometimes as sadhus, would enter houses and clean the gold under the pretext of worship. The same gang has also committed robberies by installing fake police barricades on highways and deserted roads.
According to DCP Rajesh Rozia of Surat Crime Branch, Raju Irani was presenting himself here as 'Rahman Dacoit' so that there could be fear among the people. He was taking advantage of the name and image of the notorious criminal shown in the recently released Bollywood film Dhurandhar.
