Digital Desk, Bhopal. Finally, action was taken in the case of illegal detention of five days in Shahpura police station of the city and the absconding of the suspect from the police station. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar has suspended station in-charge Lokendra Singh Thakur after finding serious irregularities in the preliminary investigation. The role of the police station clerk and squad policemen in the case is also under suspicion, a separate departmental inquiry has been started.
Let us tell you that the 19-year-old youth was kept in custody in a theft case in which the police had filed a closure report only last month. Despite this, the young man was kept for five days in a room in the police station where CCTV cameras were not even installed. Neither the arrest was recorded, nor the family was informed.
After illegal detention for five days, on January 19, the youth had escaped through the roof of the police station. The surprising thing was that the young man who was kept 'secretly' for five days, was entered into the police station only after he had fled.
Seven hours after the absconding, it was recorded in the diary that he was taken into custody and a case of escape from custody was immediately registered.

The initial investigation of the case was given to ACP Habibganj Umesh Tiwari, but due to superficial investigation for two weeks, many points remained untouched. When the matter reached the Police Commissioner, he himself took cognizance and conducted a detailed investigation. The investigation revealed indications of manipulation of records, violation of custody rules and bias in determining responsibility, after which police station in-charge Lokendra Singh was suspended on Wednesday.
Big question: One's fault or the team's?
Now the question is whether this was the mistake of just one police station in-charge or the connivance of the entire team? The role of the policemen whose youth absconded while on duty is also under investigation. The police station in-charge then, in a cover-up manner, sent a report to the DCP to suspend two policemen who were not on duty. One of these SIs has complained to the ACP about the malicious action taken by the station in-charge. According to sources, he had also handed over a CD of abuses by the police station in-charge to the ACP.
Till now, no action has been taken against the clerk who was negligent in posting the sentry on duty while the accused was absconding.
