State Bureau, New Delhi. Illegal water connections cause loss of revenue to Delhi Jal Board and also cause problems in water supply to legitimate consumers. To overcome this problem, Delhi Jal Board has started a special campaign. In the last one year, more than one lakh consumers have been given metered connections.
According to Delhi Jal Board data, the number of metered connections in the year 2023-24 was 27,256,14. In the year 2024-25 it increased to 28,304,68. In this way, the number of metered connections has increased by 1,04,854 in one year. Along with valid connections, consumers are also facing problems due to not getting correct water bills on time.
A few days ago, Delhi Water Minister Pravesh Verma had also said that only 40 percent consumers are getting the correct bills on time. To solve this problem, work is underway to improve the billing system. According to officials, there is a problem of illegal water connections in many areas, especially unauthorized colonies.
Exemption is being given in the fine amount for validating the connection. For legalizing illegal water and sewer connections, a fine of Rs 26,000 was charged from the domestic consumer. If the consumer validates his connection by January 31, he will have to pay only Rs 1,000. Non-domestic category consumers will be charged Rs 5,000 instead of Rs 61,000.
