PTI, New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea challenging the land acquisition proceedings to increase the parking area space of Mahakal Lok Complex in Ujjain.
A bench of Justices Vikramnath and Sandeep Mehta passed this order while hearing a petition filed against the January 11 order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. In its order, the High Court had rejected the petition filed against land acquisition.
On November 7, the Supreme Court had also rejected a separate petition challenging the order seeking direction for the reconstruction of a mosque in Ujjain.
This mosque was removed after the land acquisition proceedings. The Takiya Masjid, established about 200 years ago, was removed in January after the land on which it was built was acquired.
The authorities had initiated land acquisition proceedings to expand the parking lot of Mahakal Lok Complex.
During the hearing on Thursday, the lawyer appearing for the petitioner said that the mandatory provision of social impact assessment before starting the land acquisition proceedings was not followed in this case.
On this the bench said that you are only the occupier. The petitioner was not the owner of the land. Along with this, the top court refused to consider the petition challenging the order of the High Court.
