Provision of funds has been made for the new Bhagalpur airport under the UDAN-5.2 scheme in the Union Budget.

Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. The way for the proposed greenfield airport in Ajgaivinath Dham (Sultanganj) has been cleared. Funds have been provisioned for the new airport under the UDAN-5.2 scheme in the Union Budget, due to which land acquisition and construction work can now be started without any hindrance. This airport is a completely centrally sponsored project and after its completion, Bhagalpur will be directly connected to metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Administrative approval of Rs 472.72 crore has already been received from the State Council of Ministers for the acquisition of 931 acres of land for the proposed airport in Ajgaivinath Dham. On the instructions of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the district administration is busy preparing the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) report. The process of identification and removal of potential obstacles to take-off and landing has been expedited. The District Magistrate has given strict instructions to all concerned officers to speed up the work and ensure better coordination.

Experts and local citizens believe that the construction of the airport will open a new door for the development of Ajgaivinath Dham. The silk industry-related economy of Bhagalpur, famous as Silk City, will get direct connection to global markets. Along with this, new employment opportunities will also be created in food processing, tourism and service sectors.

The number of pilgrims coming here is also expected to increase significantly due to Ajgaivinath Temple and Jahnavi Ganga, which will strengthen the local economy. This airport will give a new identity to Bhagalpur and surrounding areas on the religious, industrial and tourism map.

On the request of the Aircraft Organization Directorate, land acquisition work will also be started soon. Officials say that the construction of the airport will give a new direction to tourism, trade and industrial activities in the area and the name of Bhagalpur will emerge at the national and international level.

This project will not only increase connectivity, but is also expected to boost local employment, trade and religious tourism. Experts are considering this as a historic step for the overall development of the region.
