Sports Desk, New Delhi. Indian ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer was injured during the Australia tour. His injury was very deep and that is why he was admitted to the ICU. Since then, all eyes are on when Iyer will make a comeback. A big update has come regarding his injury and return. The ODI series to be played against New Zealand is going to be announced in a few days and before that, Iyer's fitness is a topic of discussion.
According to the India Today report, Iyer will now be tested in which match-like conditions will be created against him. Only after this will a decision be taken regarding his playing in the series against New Zealand.
Iyer is currently at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. He is in the final phase of his recovery from December 25, 2025. During this period, he has shown considerable improvement in his strength and conditioning. He has done very high intensity sessions of batting and fielding in which he has performed well. Iyer has been kept in a two-match session in which the first match will be played on January 2 i.e. today and the second match will be played on January 5. Only if he plays without any problem in both these sessions, he will get the green signal to return.
There is confusion on this matter
If media reports are to be believed, BCCI can announce the team for the ODI series against New Zealand on January 3. Along with this, it is not clear whether Iyer will be able to make a place in the team or not because his second session is on January 5. There is confusion regarding this. In such a situation, time may come in the way of his return.
Due to this injury, Iyer could not play the ODI series against South Africa. He suffered this injury in the last ODI match of the Australia tour. In the third match, he fell while taking a catch from Alex Carey and had internal bleeding in his ribs, which increased his problem considerably.
