Dialogue associate, Jagran, Maniyari Muzaffarpur. A heart-wrenching incident came to light on Tuesday morning in Amarakh village of Maniyari police station area under Kudhni block of Muzaffarpur district. A man murdered his wife by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon.

The villagers caught the accused who was running away after the incident and handed him over to the police. The police took action and arrested the accused husband. The deceased has been identified as Surji Devi, about 50 years old, while the accused husband is said to be Kapileshwar Prasad Mahato (55).

According to the information received, there was a dispute between the husband and wife late on Monday night. It is alleged that during this time Kapileshwar slit the throat of his wife Surji Devi with a sharp weapon kept in the house. After the murder, the accused remained sitting near the dead body for about two hours.

On Tuesday morning he came out of the house and informed the neighbors about the incident. As soon as the information was received, Maniyari police station reached the spot. Nearby villagers chased the fleeing accused and caught him and handed him over to the police.

Shivshankar Prasad, brother-in-law of the deceased, told that in the morning he had gone to Bathan for cattle fodder. At the same time, his brother Kapileshwar called him and said that he had killed his wife. When they reached home, they saw that Surji Devi was lying dead on the cot and her neck was slit. After this, with the help of the villagers, the accused was arrested.

Police and FSL team collected evidence

Seeing the seriousness of the incident, SDPO West-2 AC Giani reached the spot along with the police force and supervised the investigation. Police took the body into custody and sent it to SKMCH for post-mortem. The team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has also collected important evidence from the spot. The sharp weapon used in the murder has also been recovered.

The reason for the allegation of illicit relationship is not clear.

SDPO AC Gyani said that prima facie the case is of murder by slitting the wife's throat. The accused has been arrested. Investigation has revealed that the accused was suspicious of his wife's illicit relations, however, the actual reason for the murder can be confirmed only after detailed investigation and interrogation. According to police sources, the accused has claimed that his wife had an illicit relationship with his brother-in-law and another person from the village. There were several disputes and panchayats in the house regarding this matter.

The accused had returned from Ludhiana after falling ill.

It is being told that Kapileshwar used to work as a laborer in a private company in Ludhiana for the last 15 years. He returned to the village last year after his health deteriorated. The couple has two children. The daughter is married, while the son is an ambulance driver in Maniyari Hospital. At the time of the incident, the son was on duty and only husband and wife were present in the house.

Police engaged in investigation

Police Station Head JP Gupta said that on receiving information about the murder of the woman, the police reached the spot and investigated. Preliminary investigation has revealed the husband's displeasure over the illicit relationship. The accused is being interrogated thoroughly. Further action will be taken after the postmortem report comes.
