Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. Bihar: The electricity department in Bhagalpur has decided to take strict action against those consumers who have not paid their electricity bills. According to the department, a special campaign will be launched to recover from consumers who have outstanding dues of Rs 5,000 or more, in which action will be taken to disconnect the connections of those who do not pay. This campaign will be conducted simultaneously in Banka district including Bhagalpur by South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, Bhagalpur Supply Zone.

Chief Engineer Sanjay Borio said that the defaulters had already been informed to pay the bills, but due to non-deposit of the expected amount, now the department has needed to take strict steps. He said that the campaign will be active in the entire district from Wednesday and for this a list of defaulting consumers has been prepared. This list includes the names of a total of 5,800 consumers who have not paid their bills.

5800 consumers have outstanding electricity bills

Borio said that through this campaign the department wants to ensure that there is no hindrance in the quality and service of power supply. He said that defaulters will also be given the option of on-the-spot payment, so that they can avoid disconnecting their connections. Apart from this, the department has appealed to the public to pay the bills on time and contact the departmental officials in case of any problem.

This step of the department has been taken with the aim of controlling the problem of electricity theft and increasing outstanding amount. Officials said that during the campaign, teams will be deployed in all areas of the district and each consumer will be personally contacted to check their bill status. He said that if a consumer makes the payment on time, there will be no restriction on his connection.

The objective of this campaign is not only to recover the dues but also to keep the power supply regular and smooth. The department has assured that the campaign will be conducted in a transparent manner and only defaulting consumers will face action.
