Bike rider injured after being hit by Shyamali bus, vandalism
Jagran Correspondent, Durgapur: A youth riding a bike was injured after being hit by an uncontrolled black Volvo bus on the service road of National Highway-19 in Pursa area under Galsi police station of East Bardhaman district on Sunday. The injured has been identified as 35-year-old Mir Apu. After the accident, the local people got angry and vandalized the bus. The situation became so tense that even the police who reached the spot had to face heavy opposition from the people. After much effort, the police pacified the angry crowd. According to the information, this incident happened around 11.30 in the morning. A Volvo bus going from Kolkata to Asansol had left the main road and came to the service road for loading and unloading passengers. Meanwhile, bike rider Mir Apu, who was coming out of the underpass on the service road, got hit by the bus. The collision was so strong that the bike rider went far and fell. Local people took him in critical condition to Bardhaman Medical College Hospital, where doctors admitted him for better treatment. It is being told that the youth has suffered serious injuries due to not having a helmet on his head. As soon as the news of the youth being injured was received, the people present at the spot became furious. The crowd surrounded the bus and broke the glass. It is alleged that the mob also beat up the driver, however, out of fear, the driver and the passenger somehow managed to leave the bus and run away. The passengers traveling in the bus also had to face a lot of trouble due to this uproar and were forced to get down from the bus. When the police reached the spot after getting information about the incident and tried to seize the bus, people surrounded the police and started protesting. Villagers allege that accidents happen every day due to careless movement of heavy vehicles on the service road. He demanded deployment of traffic police on the underpass.
