PTI, New Delhi. State BJP President Rajiv Chandrashekhar on Thursday attacked Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan regarding the film 'Kerala Story 2'. He accused Vijayan of "dual policies" and "selective interpretation of the right to freedom". Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan has termed 'The Kerala Story 2' as a "hate film".
It is noteworthy that the teaser of 'Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond' directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh was released recently. The first film in the series, 'The Kerala Story', won the awards for Best Direction and Best Cinematography at the 71st National Film Awards.
Referring to the online participation of a Hamas leader in a pro-Palestine event to be held in Malappuram, Kerala in 2023, Chandrashekhar said in the national capital, when Hamas tries to radicalize our youth, the Chief Minister calls it freedom of expression, but if someone makes a film on 'Love Jihad', where is this freedom and Article 19? This shows his dual policy. This is all his selective interpretation.
He further said that if the CM does not like the film, then do not watch it. Those who want to see it, let them see it. If Hamas has the right to freedom, so do the makers of the film 'Kerala Story'. BJP will not accept such dual policy.
The BJP leader challenged the CPI(M) to a debate on the issue. Chandrashekhar said that love jihad is not a fantasy but a reality and if Vijayan wants to ignore it, then that is his problem.
Alleged that Vijayan is silent on the issue because he is trying to get votes from a particular community. Chandrashekhar said that now the time of CPI(M) is over.
Meanwhile, in a post on Twitter, Vijayan said that the release of the Kerala Story sequel should be viewed with "extreme seriousness". It is shocking that stories designed to incite communal discord are given a free hand, while critical expressions of art are suppressed.
Earlier on Wednesday too, Vijayan had expressed concern over the upcoming release of 'The Kerala Story-2', claiming that its first part was made with the "intention of spreading hatred against the state and weakening its secular tradition".
