Digital Desk, New Delhi. All the parties tried their best to win the country's largest municipal corporation. However, the results came in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP hoisted the flag of victory over Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by winning 89 seats. However, despite this, BJP is not happy with the party's performance in the elections.
After 2002, no party has got so many seats in the BMC elections. But, BJP has also described this historic victory as much less than the expectations. Why after all?
The target was to win 110 seats
Actually BJP had set a target of winning 110 seats in BMC elections. In such a situation, the party has suffered a deep blow for not crossing the 100 mark. The party has ordered an internal review to find out where the mistakes have been made.
Before the alliance with Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde's party Shiv Sena, BJP had planned to contest elections on more than 155 seats. In such a situation, BJP had estimated to win 120-125 seats. However, after the alliance between the two parties, BJP got only 137 seats, after which BJP was expected to win 110 seats.
According to the report of Hindustan Times, BJP leaders believe that the lack of coordination among the party leaders and flaws in the selection of candidates has had a huge impact on the seats. Apart from this, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray had raised the slogan of Marathi identity and Marathi pride, which BJP has failed to refute.
State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also expressed displeasure over the party's performance. The party believes that the rally of Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray held at Shivaji Park on Sunday had a great impact on the voting. Thackeray Brothers had appealed to unite the people to save Mumbai and Marathi identity, due to which there has been a huge decline in BJP's vote share. CM Devendra Fadnavis says that the Mahayuti alliance has won more than 100 seats. he adds-
We (the alliance) have won 119 seats. At the same time, BJP has lost on 14 seats by a small margin of 7-100 votes. At the same time, Shiv Sena has not been able to even touch this figure in the last three elections.
Voting was held on 29 municipal corporations on January 15, 2026, in which BJP has won 49 percent of the seats. At the same time, BJP got only 64 percent seats in Mumbai.
