Soldiers of the 32nd Corps of the Border Security Force (BSF) near the India-Bangladesh border in Nadia district of Bengal once again foiled a major attempt to smuggle gold, seized a huge consignment of 36 gold biscuits worth more than Rs 5.47 crore and arrested an alleged Indian smuggler.
The officers provided this information. South Bengal Frontier, BSF, said in a statement that the troops of Banpur border post launched the operation after receiving a specific intelligence input on Thursday and kept a close watch on the suspected smuggling routes.
During the operation, the soldiers saw a person moving suspiciously from the border road towards Banpur village. When called, he tried to run away, but was caught. During the search, 36 gold biscuits whose total weight was 4.23 kg were recovered from him.
The gold was being smuggled from Bangladesh. The seized gold and the smuggler have been handed over to customs officials for further investigation. This is the third major seizure of gold from the border area of South Bengal Frontier within the last 10 days.
South Bengal Frontier Public Relations Officer and DIG NK Pandey praised this action and said that the alert soldiers of the force are fully committed to stop illegal activities like smuggling.
He appealed to the residents of the border area to immediately share any information related to gold smuggling with BSF on Seema Sathi helpline number 14419 or WhatsApp number 9903472227. Anyone giving confirmed information will be given a suitable reward and their identity will be kept completely confidential.
