State Bureau, Lucknow. After the ongoing campaign to stop the misuse of codeine-containing cough syrups and narcotics category drugs, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) will now verify the licenses and warehouses of wholesale drug sellers.
FSDA Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob has instructed all the Assistant Commissioners and Drug Inspectors to verify all the wholesale drug shops from February. In this, the status of the licensed firm within the approved boundaries, adequate arrangements for storage of medicines, presence of appropriate person at the establishment and confirmation of their experience certificate should be checked.
According to the Commissioner, the two-month long campaign revealed that many wholesale drug firms were not at their registered addresses. Despite obtaining licenses, they were not operating at all. At the registered addresses of many firms, only building owners were found, who had no knowledge about the drug license.
Keeping this in view, all wholesale licenses will be verified. It will also be seen whether there is a warehouse at a place other than the medicine shop, whether a separate license has been obtained for it or not. Apart from this, wholesale drug sellers will also be given a chance to return their licenses before the verification campaign begins.
All drug inspectors have been instructed to make arrangements that the owner of the building where there is a drug shop or warehouse should confirm from his own level that the tenant is doing business with a valid license. Roshan Jacob has given instructions to take strict verification action.
Let us tell you that about 80 thousand wholesalers have licenses in the state. In the campaign against illegal sale of codeine containing syrup, many irregularities were found in wholesale pharmaceutical firms. After this, FSDA has issued new guidelines in the process of obtaining license. Along with this, verification of the old license will also be done.
