Jagran correspondent, Kurukshetra/Dhand (Kaithal). In Dhand town of Kaithal early on Sunday morning, a speeding Alto car driver crushed the Sangat participating in the Prabhatferi being taken out to commemorate Guru Ravidas Jayanti.

Priyanka (25) and Darshani Devi (62) died in this accident. 15 people were injured. Of these, 8-10 people were taken to Loknayak Jai Prakash Hospital in Kurukshetra. Others were taken to hospitals in Dhand, Karnal and Kaithal.

Early in the morning, it left Prabhatferi Colony and reached Pundri Road. Meanwhile, an Alto car was coming at high speed from Pundri side. The people involved in the Prabhatferi showed torches and signaled the car driver to stop, but the driver did not slow down the speed and the car went straight into the crowd. As soon as the information was received, Dhand police station reached the spot.

The injured and the dead were taken to the hospital with the help of relatives, where doctors declared Priyanka and Darshani Devi dead. Police controlled the car driver. Eyewitnesses say that the driver was drunk, which is why this accident happened.

After the accident, the accused driver was running away leaving the car on the spot. People caught him and handed him over to the police. Organizers say that drug paraphernalia was also found kept in the vehicle.

Sonia, Sukhwinder Kaur, Mohanlal, resident of Dhand and Seena, resident of Sangatpura village of Kaithal, are admitted in LNJP Hospital, Kurukshetra. Apart from this, Sohanlal and Anita, residents of Dhand, were also brought from a private hospital to LNJP Hospital. Meanwhile, Jiyalal and Subhash suffered minor injuries and were given first aid.

Festive enthusiasm turned into screams

Early in the morning, on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, people were taking out Prabhat Pheri with joy and enthusiasm. Women were dancing to the hymns. After walking some distance on the road, within a few moments the happiness turned into screaming. There were more than 150 women and men in the Prabhat Pheri.

After the car collision, some fell here and some fell there. The speeding car stopped only after the collision. Someone was handling the injured and someone was putting the injured in vehicles to take them to the hospital. While religious hymns were being heard by the people, the cries of women were heard after the accident.

Priyanka was studying for BA: Ravindra

Deceased Priyanka's father Ravindra told that he works as a labourer. His daughter Priyanka was studying BA. Priyanka was the eldest among four siblings. Priyanka was very excited to participate in Guru Das's Prabhat Pheri.

Darshana's son Randhir told that the father was already ill, now the whole family is in shock due to the death of the mother. Mother had happily gone early in the morning to participate in Prabhat Pheri, but after some time the news of death came.

Accused car driver arrested: Sunil

Mahila police station in-charge Inspector Sunil Kumar said that the accused car driver Manish, son of Rameshwar Lal, resident of Jajjiwala Kala district, Jodhpur Hall, resident of Vishwas Nagar, Shadipur Amin Road, Kurukshetra, has been arrested. The post-mortem of Priyanka Devi and Darshana Devi has been conducted and the bodies have been handed over to the family members.
