Digital Desk, New Delhi. Europe is showing its solidarity in the ongoing talks with American representatives in the German capital Berlin to end the Ukraine war. French President Emmanuel Macron has reached Berlin to attend the meeting. Leaders of Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, EU Commission chief Ursala Van der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte may also attend the meeting.

Earlier on Sunday, in a five-hour informal meeting, US President's envoy Steve Witcalf and son-in-law Jared Kushner held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on several issues. Zelensky's discussions with American negotiators continue in the presence of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Monday. America has described the discussions held in the two-day meetings as very progressive. But it has not said which points of the peace proposal Zelensky has agreed to.

What did Zelensky say in Sunday's meeting?

In Sunday's meeting, Zelensky made it clear that Ukraine is ready to give up its desire to join the military alliance NATO. But in return it needs security guarantees from allied western countries including America. Under this security guarantee, Zelensky wants the deployment of troops from allied countries in Ukraine. At present Russia is not ready for this. But Russia has shown a positive attitude towards Ukraine giving up its desire for NATO membership. Said that this was the root cause of the war.

In the talks, Zelensky has refused to withdraw his troops from Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk provinces (Donbass). But 90 percent of the area of Donbass has been occupied by the Russian army. Zelensky seems to agree to compromise on the current occupation conditions. In such a situation, Russia may be ready to accept Zelensky's words.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has said that its intelligence agency SBU has caused heavy damage to a Russian submarine by attacking a Russian submarine in the sea near Novorossiysk port in Russia.

Preparation to give loan to Ukraine with the guarantee of Russian property

The talks in Berlin to stop the Russia-Ukraine war have taken place when this week the leaders of the 27 member countries of the European Union (EU) will decide in Brussels on giving loans to Ukraine with the guarantee of $ 250 billion of Russia's frozen assets. Banks of European countries will give this loan. But EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kalas has said that it has also given a message that the ongoing negotiations regarding Russian assets will be difficult.

The EU took the decision last week to freeze Russian assets. The Central Bank of Russia has filed a petition in the Moscow court, calling this move of the EU illegal. Meanwhile, the EU on Monday announced sanctions on some Russian companies and citizens.
