Since Thursday morning, heavy rush of tourists was seen in Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Bird Park, Japanese Garden and Sector-17 Plaza. Despite the morning cold at Sukhna Lake, people were seen strolling, taking selfies and sitting on the banks of the lake enjoying the New Year. Tourists were seen capturing memories on camera in the Rock Garden, while children had a lot of fun in the Bird Park and Japanese Garden.
Sector-17 Plaza was full of excitement the whole day. Here, amidst shopping, food stalls and music, the enthusiasm of the youth was palpable. Family, friends and relatives were seen wishing each other a happy new year. There was special enthusiasm among the small children about the New Year, while many newly married couples also came to make this special day memorable.
There was hustle and bustle of tourists in the city throughout the day. By evening the crowd increased at major places. Many people said that starting the new year in a peaceful and beautiful city like Chandigarh gives them peace. In view of the increased crowd at tourist places, strict security arrangements were made by the police and administration.
