Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. Chandigarh Mayor Election 2026: The city will get a new mayor by 12 noon today. Saurabh Joshi from BJP, Yogesh Dhingra from Aam Aadmi Party and Gurpreet Singh Gabi from Congress are in the fray.

However, the resentment of many Aam Aadmi Party councilors seems to be making it easier for BJP's Saurabh Joshi to reach the chair. The distance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party has also reduced from Saurabh Joshi's chair. If this conflict continues in the elections today, BJP will win by a huge margin.

BJP has maximum 18 votes. Whereas two out of 11 AAP councilors are said to be angry. Angered by not being made a candidate, Ramchandra Yadav has filed a separate nomination for Deputy Mayor. Damanpreet is also angry. Congress has six councilors and one MP Manish Tiwari will have his vote. Voting will start at 11 am. Stay connected to know the updates related to voting.

Which candidate from which party?

Congress councilors' phones were switched off from 8 pm onwards

Congress President HS Lucky held a meeting with councilors at his home. Lucky also discussed the upcoming municipal elections along with the mayor elections. The councilors reiterated that he will contest elections on all three posts including that of Mayor. Will not support you. The phones of Congress councilors were switched off at eight o'clock in the night.

AAP's lunch diplomacy at Sukhna, three councilors did not turn up

Aam Aadmi Party councilor reached Sukhna Lake for lunch on Wednesday afternoon. You councilor was seen consulting on solar cruise in the presence of Chandigarh in-charge General Singh and President Vijay Pal Yadav.

However, since only six to seven councilors were visible in the photo, many questions were raised. Mutual conflict and resentment were seen here too. Ramchandra Yadav and Jasbir Singh Ladi did not attend lunch. Although Damanpreet Singh remained present.

Teams kept making strategies all day long

Before the elections, on Wednesday, political parties were busy making strategies throughout the day. What is interesting this time is that Congress and AAP councilors are in the city and BJP councilors have stayed in Panchkula for many days. On Wednesday, BJP election observer Vinod Tawde reached Red Bishop of Panchkula and taught the lesson of unity to all the councilors. He united the dissidents by declaring that BJP was above personal desires and selfishness. Giving them examples, BJP's policy and PM's vision, he talked about future opportunities.

Will decide by raising hands

The Presiding Officer will first take the name of a candidate and ask for a show of hands from the members supporting him. The councilors who raise their hands will register the names of each one. After this, he will take the name of the second candidate and ask the councilors supporting him to raise their hands.
