Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. Odisha government's ambitious Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana was launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday. The formal launch of the scheme was done from the famous Maa Tara Tarini Peeth of Ganjam district, where the Chief Minister himself participated in the program and launched the scheme.

Under this scheme, support will be provided by the government for the marriage of daughters of economically weaker families. According to the eligibility of the scheme, the age of the groom has been fixed at 21 to 35 years and the age of the girl has been fixed at 18 to 35 years.

An assistance amount of Rs 60 thousand will be given to the beneficiaries, while all the expenses related to the marriage will be borne by the government. In the mass marriage ceremony organized on the occasion of the launch of the scheme, the mass marriage of about 200 couples took place.

The objective of the government through this scheme is to ban child marriage, curb dowry system, encourage widow remarriage and provide facilities for organizing respectable marriages to families struggling with financial constraints.
