Preparations for Christmas are started long in advance. On this day, traditions like decorating the house and Christmas tree and giving and receiving gifts are prevalent. In England, there is a tradition of lighting candles at Christmas, called the "Advent Crown". On this day people go to church and pray and sing songs, which are called carols, in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
