Jagran correspondent, Patna. The effect of cold has now started becoming serious in Patna, the capital of Bihar. Even though the sunshine is providing relief during the day, the cold winds blowing from 3 pm to morning are forcing people to shiver. Due to negligence in protection from cold and wearing inadequate warm clothes, the number of patients suffering from brain stroke, heart attack and breathlessness is increasing rapidly.

Along with this, a large number of patients suffering from cold, cough and fever are also reaching the hospital. The situation is such that the availability of beds in major government hospitals of the capital is in crisis. The number of patients coming daily to the medicine, cardiology and neurology departments of PMCH has increased by 30-35 percent as compared to normal days.

More number of brain stroke and heart attack patients are being seen in the emergency ward. The beds in many wards are completely filled. Director of IGIC, Dr. Sunil Kumar said that currently 20-25 patients are arriving in emergency every day. Many times the situation becomes such that it becomes difficult to provide a bed to the patient.

Patients suffering from sugar, BP and asthma face more problems.

The number of patients suffering from cold related diseases is also continuously increasing in NMCH. According to the doctors of the Medicine Department, complaints of breathing problems, high BP and chest pain are becoming more common among the elderly and already ill people. Here too the pressure on the medicine ward has increased. The number of patients in Neurology and Cardiac units has increased in IGIMS.

According to the hospital management, more cases of stroke are being reported due to blood pressure imbalance due to cold. Many serious patients have to be admitted to ICU, due to which the availability of beds has been limited. Even in AIIMS Patna, crowd of patients is being seen in OPD and emergency.

More patients suffering from cold, cough, fever as well as heart and lung related diseases are arriving here. Doctors say that there is a need to be especially cautious in the morning and night in cold weather.

IGIC Deputy Director cum DM Cardiologist Dr. Rohit Kumar said that one must wear warm clothes while going out in the morning and late evening. Go out for a walk only when the sun comes out.

Avoid direct contact with cold air. Said that the elderly, heart and respiratory patients should take special care and if there is sudden chest pain, dizziness or difficulty in breathing, reach the hospital immediately.
