Jagran correspondent, Samastipur. Eco Friendly Marriage: There was something different on the streets of the city on Wednesday evening. Neither the ear-splitting sound of the DJ, nor the glare of lights, nor the queue of luxury cars.
If there was anything, it was the steady gait of the bulls, the soft creaking of the wooden bullock carts and the soft tune of folk songs. Seeing this scene, every passerby stopped, mobile cameras came out and only one question started echoing, now does anyone go to the wedding procession even by bullock cart?
This unique and completely desi themed wedding procession was of the wedding of Alok, son of Pradeep Seth, a well-known businessman of the city. When the wedding procession left the hotel on Gola Road in the evening, it seemed as if time went back for a moment.
The groom was riding in the chariot. A smile on the head, a simple smile on the face and a determination to live the tradition in the mind. A caravan of 22 decorated bullock carts was moving slowly behind him.
royal bullock cart ride
The wedding guests sitting on these bullock carts were enjoying a royal ride. Somewhere sofa sets were set up, while somewhere people were sitting on mattresses and dancing to folk tunes. By the time the procession reached Gajraj Palace in Mathurapur after covering a distance of about two kilometres, it was no longer just a wedding procession but had become a topic of discussion.
The special thing about this procession was that it was completely pollution-free. No smoke, no noise. Just joy, belongingness and harmony with nature. The sound of bullock cart wheels, the fragrance of flowers and the tune of folk songs created such a scene as if the soul of the village itself had become a witness to this marriage.
message of environmental protection
Program coordinator and animal lover Mahendra Pradhan says that 35 pairs of bullock carts were called from nearby villages for this indigenous and environment-sensitive event. Everything was decorated in traditional style. Sofas were placed on bullock carts for some special guests, while mattresses were arranged in the rest.
When this unique procession came out on the road, there was surprise and smile on the faces of the onlookers. Someone said, “This is a real wedding”, while someone called it a beautiful combination of tradition and modern thinking.
In this era of noise and show, this desi themed wedding gave the message that celebration can be equally grand with simplicity, culture and environment. Whereas the groom Alok said that he wanted to do something different, but he had not thought that it would take this form.
