valley wrapped in fog
Jagran correspondent, Pilibhit. Due to continuous snowfall in the mountains and icy winds coming from the north-west, the severe cold in Pilibhit district has made life difficult for the people. There has been a huge drop in temperature in the last 24 hours, due to which a white blanket of dense fog has covered the entire Terai region. Due to this situation, melting (cold wave) has increased manifold and normal life has become completely disrupted.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in the district fell to around nine degrees Celsius on Tuesday. This was the lowest temperature of this season. A severe chill was felt in the atmosphere since morning, due to which people were forced to remain hidden inside their homes. Early on Tuesday, a white sheet of fog covered the entire plains.
The density of the fog was so high that the Sun God was not visible throughout the day. Due to lack of sunlight the melting continued throughout the day. Due to dense fog, there was dew on the roads, which increased the slippage on the roads. Due to extremely low visibility the speed of vehicles stopped. Vehicles were seen crawling ahead with lights on on the national highways, leading to long queues.
Due to no holidays in schools, school children were most affected by the cold. Small children reached school carrying many clothes and wearing caps and mufflers on their heads. Parents have demanded the district administration to change the school timings or declare winter vacation. Due to cold and fog, officers and employees in government and private offices also reached late.
There was a delay in starting the work, due to which the pace of government work was also affected. Farmers' worries have increased due to continuously falling temperatures and frost-like fog. There is a possibility of frost on potato, mustard and pulse crops, which may affect production. Farmers have demanded the administration to issue agricultural advisories as per the weather conditions.
