State Bureau, Patna. On the question raised by Dr. Bhim Singh in Rajya Sabha, the Ministry of External Affairs gave important information regarding making consular services accessible and effective for overseas Indians, especially workers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand working in Gulf countries.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said Indian missions and posts abroad provide prompt assistance through walk-in facility, email, social media, 24x7 emergency helpline, toll-free number, ‘Madad’ and grievance redressal portals like CPgrams. Financial assistance is also provided to Indian citizens in distress under the Indian Community Welfare Fund.
The government also said that Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreements and Labor Welfare Agreements have been signed with various countries to promote safe and legal migration and prevent exploitation.
Labor cooperation agreements are in place with GCC countries and special agreements have been signed with Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait to protect the interests of domestic workers. Additionally, pre-departure orientation training program is being conducted to sensitize the migrant workers.
So far, more than 2,30,342 people have been trained and 47 centers are operational across the country. This program makes migrants aware of safe and legal migration.
