Ramesh Chandra, Jagran Nainital. The activity of the Sun has suddenly become very intense these days. After the recent explosion on the Sun, now a geomagnetic solar storm is moving towards the Earth.
This is a G-2 category solar storm which can reach the Earth today on Friday. Scientists are fearing disruption in radio communications, satellite operations and air services due to its impact.
Solar scientist Dr. Wahabuddin, former director of Aryabhatta Observational Science Research Institute (ARIES), Nainital, said that solar activity should have stopped by now but it still remains quite active.
In the last five days, powerful X-8 and X-6 class solar flares had erupted from the Sun. The X-8 grade flame is rare and extremely powerful.
That is why it is considered to be the biggest fire so far this year. Due to this, the possibility of geomagnetic solar storm hitting the Earth's poles has also increased.
This is a G-2 class solar storm in terms of speed. This may cause disruption in shortwave, radio communication and air services and problems in satellite operation. Whereas colorful lights i.e. aurora can also be seen in the polar regions.
The focal point of this solar storm is sun spot number AR-4366 which is currently facing the Earth. Earlier this sun spot was very small but after the explosion it has become very big.
There is still a possibility of more explosions from this sun spot. Not only this, there are still many more sun spot groups on the surface of the Sun, in which further explosions may occur.
This is the 25th solar cycle of the Sun, which is going through a period of maxima i.e. greater activity these days. It has been more than one and a half years since it became active.
At present, solar scientists around the world are keeping a close eye on the solar storm coming towards the Earth.
