57 subject experts-academicians were involved in the decision to teach corruption in the judiciary (indicative picture)
Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. Only time will tell who bears the blame for the decision to teach children only the controversial subject of corruption in the judiciary in NCERT's Class 8 Social Science textbook, but 57 subject experts and educationists were directly responsible for it.
It was his responsibility to prepare the textbooks, properly examine and examine the content included in them and finalize it. If experts are to be believed, prima facie it is a case of complete negligence, which was not investigated properly at any level.
Although there is no direct role in the curriculum change at the ministry level, it is also yet to be revealed whether there was any informal brainstorming.
Under the new National Education Policy (NEP), three separate committees were formed to prepare this textbook. The first committee among these was the curriculum development committee, which had a total of 15 members including the chairman. Its presidents were guest professors Michel Danino and Sanjeev Sanyal of IIT Gandhinagar.
Another 23-member review committee was formed to monitor the functioning of the curriculum development committee. Apart from this, a 19-member National Curriculum and Teaching Learning Material Committee was formed to finalize the content included in the textbook.
A retired senior officer from NCERT said that a huge committee is formed to prepare the syllabus of any subject so that there are no irregularities at any level.
At the same time, it is also monitored at many levels. At first glance, negligence is visible in this matter. This subject matter was included in it without thinking, later no one saw it and that book was also published.
This is how textbooks are prepared in NCERT, this is the system
In the system of preparing textbooks of NCERT, in the first phase a framework is prepared as to what is to be taught to the children at which class level. Later, under the same framework, the committee is given the responsibility of preparing new textbooks.
For this, considering the need of the subject, experts from those related fields are included in the committee. They recommend adding research and factual material related to related topics. During this, each topic is discussed before being included.
If sources are to be believed, being an autonomous institution, NCERT is given complete autonomy as to what subject matter it has to teach in the interests of the students. However, in many cases the Education Ministry was also contacted regarding this. This is done formally.
