Sons, Pithoragarh. Before the fire season, there is a possibility of a halt in forest fire incidents for a few days after snowfall and rain. Due to increase in moisture in the atmosphere the forests will remain calm for the time being. This year, due to lack of rain and snowfall in winter, the moisture level had gone down considerably, due to which the incidents of forest fires started increasing.
There were two fire incidents in the district last week. In the absence of rain, the fire season was expected to begin before February 14. The fire department was on alert mode and 64 crew stations were prepared. The recent rains have brought down the temperature and increased the humidity level, due to which the danger of forest fire has been averted for a few days.
The Forest Department may get relief if it rains again in the next days. Forest Range Officer Dinesh Joshi said that there has been relief from the rain.
