Jagran correspondent, Jammu. Amid continued cold temperatures, there is a possibility of power shortage of more than 34 percent in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the month of December.

Officials say that in the case of estimated power supply in the northern region for December 2025, there is a possibility of 34.2 percent power shortage in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Official data shows that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have availability of only 2460 MW against the requirement of 3737 MW. This also shows that there is a shortfall of 1277 MW. In another official document it is written that with the increase in winter the demand of JK Control Area is increasing and it is around 3200 MW.

It also says that the heating load is also increasing in the morning and night. Demand may increase further in the coming days. It has been observed that the 400 KW and 220 KW BUS voltages are remaining very low at different stations of Kashmir Valley reaching 347 KW and 178 KW.

Let us tell you that in November the officials had estimated that there will be more demand for electricity in Jammu and Kashmir by the year 2034-35. The official had clarified that the peak demand would be higher than the average growth. He said that the demand for electricity in this area may increase by 6 percent every year from 2025-26 to 2034-2035.

Describing the rate of year-on-year increase in electricity demand, officials have said that there will be five percent more demand in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2025-26. After this, there will be four percent more demand in the year 2026-27, four percent in 2027-28 and three percent in 2028-29. -----
