Brajesh Pathak, Sasaram (Rohtas). Every parent wishes that their daughter lives a happy life. Poor parents are not able to fulfill this wish despite all their efforts. Taking advantage of this poverty, helplessness and helplessness, traders of daughters in many villages of the district are calling people from outside states and getting them married for a few rupees.
Many close relatives are playing the role of middleman. When daughters get married and go to states like Rajasthan, Delhi etc., they have to face a lot of torture with husbands who are two and a half to three times their age.
Many daughters have returned to their courtyard after a few months of marriage after a lot of hard work. When they narrate their plight to their relatives, they get goosebumps.
In many villages of Rohtas, Naukhatta, Tilothu and other blocks of Kaimur Hills, daughters from economically weak and uneducated families have had to return to their homes after marriage in Rajasthan and Delhi after being harassed.
Swati Kumari (name changed), an 18-year-old girl from Katar village of Indrapuri police station area, was married in January 2025 in Jalore district of Rajasthan on the advice of relatives. When she got married and went to her in-laws house, all her wishes were shattered after seeing her 56 year old husband.
Within a few days he used to torture her a lot. To get his point across, he used to stay in the straw house without food and water. Swati somehow informed her mother. After which the mother went to her in-laws' house with the middleman.
A Panchayat was held there and she was sent off on the condition that she would send her daughter back to her in-laws' house within a month. Swati has been refusing to go to her in-laws' house for the last ten months.
A daughter of Ramdihara village of Amjhor police station area was married in a village in Rajasthan in 2023. His relative had told the boy about getting a job in Delhi Railways. After marriage, when she went to her in-laws' house, she found her 55 year old husband. Strict security was imposed on him in the house.
After which she started feeling very worried. Somehow she ran away from there and came to her home and narrated her ordeal to her family members. She is also refusing to go back to her in-laws house.
The daughter of a village in Bikramganj police station area was married to a young man from Kanpur. The youth sold that daughter for marriage to Sushil Kumar, resident of Pipra village of Mohammadabad police station of Farrukhabad district, for Rs 1 lakh 55 thousand.
On the basis of mobile location, Bikramganj police recovered it through UP Police and arrested three people involved in this incident.
What do the officers say?
Girls should be married only after thorough investigation and after ascertaining the family and the groom. If any daughter or guardian becomes a victim of fraud then a complaint should be made to the administration.
