Dialogue partner, Jagran, Bahjoi. Sambhal police and administration have taken attachment action against an interstate gang that was embezzling claim money through fake insurance policies. Under the Gangster Act, illegally acquired property worth Rs 11.89 crore belonging to this gang is being confiscated. The order was issued by the DM Court on January 7 and even before this, notices were served to the concerned.
On Monday, joint teams of police and revenue department took action in Babrala and Varanasi, while in Badaun and Noida, attachment action will be taken on Tuesday. This organized crime gang was exposed on the night of 18 January 2025 when ASP South Anukriti Sharma and Rajpura Police caught a black Scorpio. Rs 11.44 lakh were recovered from the car.
Four mobile phones and 19 documents recovered
Omkareshwar Mishra alias Karan Mishra, resident of Phulwariya village of Thana Cantt area of Varanasi, and Amit Kumar, resident of Babrala, were traveling in the vehicle. Amit was living in Gajraula at that time. Four mobile phones and 19 documents were recovered from both of them. These included credit cards, debit cards, PAN cards and Aadhar cards and more than 30 thousand fake insurance policies, death certificates and other documents were found in their mobile phones.
Police investigation revealed that the accounts linked to these debit cards contained funds worth lakhs of rupees and the accounts were opened fraudulently in the names of other people. Further investigation revealed that Omkareshwar Mishra was a third party investigator officer in a private company and used to investigate insurance policy claim applications.
The gang was active in 12 states
By misusing this position, he created an organized network of insurance claim fraud. As the layers were revealed, it also came to light that the gang was not limited to insurance only. The members associated with it were also associated with many other gangs related to fake Aadhar card making, tractor gang, finance and loan and were active in 12 states.
In this, more than 25 cases were registered in many police stations of the district including eight police stations of the district and more than 70 people went to jail. Which also includes people from Assam, Delhi, UP, Bihar and Jharkhand. In this entire matter, action was taken against 25 people under the Gangster Act at Rajpura police station on 22 August 2025. Inspector Sant Kumar, in-charge of Bahjoi, is doing the investigation.
According to the police, under attachment, properties worth Rs 1,26,70,000 of main kingpin Omkareshwar Mishra have been identified in Varanasi, properties worth Rs 9,18,72,000 of Sachin Sharma alias Monu in Babrala, Sambhal, Noida and Badaun and properties worth Rs 1,44,02,000 of Sachin's brother Gaurav Sharma have been identified in Badaun. According to the order, Gunnaur Tehsil Administration and Revenue Department of Varanasi have been appointed receivers.
The gang members used to get insurance for sick people. After committing the murder, they used to extort money by making it look like an accident. 70 people associated with this gang have gone to jail. Now an announcement has been made at the house of the kingpin and two real brothers and action has been taken to confiscate the property. Apart from Babrala, joint teams of police and revenue department have also taken this action in Varanasi.
